that's exactly the error message I was getting. I just modified the grids so the son's grid is completely inside fathers grid but with at least one line of free cells.

Angela, thanks for your help. I finally found the source of the error. For some reason, the father model must have at least one row of free cells in the boundaries of the father grid. I could not get rid of it. I already tried changing DTs, correcting bathymetry, using deadzone so there are no problems with the assimilation zones, etc etc.

but it keeps coming...
