### cartesian coordinate example

Hi,
I would like to know which of these examples is the correct one, or where are wrong.

If I have an homogenous depth grid of 500m, and I want to calculate de velocities at, depth=10m,depth=80m, depth=200m, depth=400m, my geometry.dat file should be:

<begindomain>
MINIMUMDEPTH : 0.1
FACES_OPTION : 2
IMPERMEABILITY : 0
ID : 1
TYPE : CARTESIAN
LAYERS : 4
LAYERTHICKNESS : 400 200 80 10
TOLERANCEDEPTH : 0.05
DOMAINDEPTH : -99.0
MININITIALLAYERTHICKNESS : 0.05
<enddomain>

or

<begindomain>
MINIMUMDEPTH : 0.1
FACES_OPTION : 2
IMPERMEABILITY : 0
ID : 1
TYPE : CARTESIAN
LAYERS : 4
LAYERTHICKNESS : 100 300 420 490
TOLERANCEDEPTH : 0.05
DOMAINDEPTH : -99.0
MININITIALLAYERTHICKNESS : 0.05
<enddomain>

or

<begindomain>
MINIMUMDEPTH : 0.1
FACES_OPTION : 2
IMPERMEABILITY : 0
ID : 1
TYPE : CARTESIAN
LAYERS : 4
LAYERTHICKNESS : 200 120 70 10
TOLERANCEDEPTH : 0.05
DOMAINDEPTH : -99.0
MININITIALLAYERTHICKNESS : 0.05
<enddomain>

Thanks a lot for your help

Mohid layers count from bottom to the surface, when you define the thickness you are not giving the depth but adding meters to the bottom depth and providing the thickness of each layer. For instance, if what you want is to define the top depth of each layer at the depth you mentioned, in your case with a bottom depth of 500 m it should be

LAYERS : 5
LAYERTHICKNESS : 100 200 120 70 10

The result would be a first bottom layer 100 m thick that would comprise the depths between 500 and 400 m and so on. Its sum should comprise the maximum depth on your bathymetry.

Hope it helps. Best regards,

Francisco
