Question about Boxes in Lagrangian Module

Postby camillecouzi@yahoo.fr » Mon Jun 22, 2009 23:53

Dear Mohiders,
I am having a little doubt concerning the use of boxes in the Lagrangian Module.
In fact, I would like to modelize the expansion of a virus, and this virus would be in diferent carriers (fish, plankton,...). There would be three carriers: one by plankton, one by fishes, and the other one would represent the virus as a particle itself.
For that, I know the place of the origin of the emission, I would like to make a origin box with the dimensions 30*30*15 metres. The three type of boxes would have this same box origin, and then they will have a diferent evolution because of their difference in concentration ect...

My doubt is about how to do that?!!! :D
In fact, I have begun doing my lagrangian module. will the 3 boxes have the same begin origin? (I imagine yes), and then I have to write box number : 3, and make 3 properties bloks?

This is what I have wrote for the moment:

OUTPUT_TIME : 0 3600
OUTPUT_CONC : 2
DT_OUTPUT_TIME : 3600

<BeginOrigin>
!caracterización del tipo de trazadores
ORIGIN_NAME : VirusISA_piojodemar
GROUP_ID : 1
FLOAT : 0 !indica q particula no flota

BOTTOM_EMISSION : 0
ADVECTION : 0

!Eleccion del modelado
MOVEMENT : NotRandom
COMPUTE_AGE : 1
DENSITY_METHOD : 3 !constante
KILL_LAND_PARTICLES : 1 !Kills particles which are located in a Waterpoint which is not a OpenPoint
MANTAIN_REALTIVE_POSITION : 0 !Check is the user wants to maintain the vertical relative position of the origin
OLD : 0

<<BeginProperty>>
NAME : zooplankton
UNITS : number/100ml
CONCENTRATION : 5
AMBIENT_CONC : 5
OUTPUT_CONC : 2
<<EndProperty>>
<EndOrigin>

Another questions:
- how do I make the PARTIC_BOX (the origin box? with mohid gis...?)
- what is the function of the BOX_FLUXES keyword?
- what is the name keyword to put for a virus? particulate contaminant?
- Is there a keyword to ,ak a particle duplicate (not in volume, duplication like baterias...)?

Thank you in advance for your answers, have a nice day!

Hi Camille,

From what I've understood you can define 3 properties in one origin where the emission of particles is made from blocks.
My question is, what makes the fish, plankton and virus take different positions? because this way, they will share the same lagrangian tracer... not sure if I was clear.

Hope this helps,
Luis

Hi luis,
Thanks for your fast reply.
In fact, I want to model the expansion of virus through 3 different ways because there is not yet a clear demonstration of how it evolues, and these three ways of expansion( the virus in the fish, the virus in the faeces ans the virus only as a particle) seem to be th three principal vectors of transmission...
With this thought, I would write sthg like that in my lagrangian module:

OUTPUT_TIME : 0 3600
OUTPUT_CONC : 2
DT_OUTPUT_TIME : 3600

<BeginOrigin>
!caracterización del tipo de trazadores
ORIGIN_NAME : VirusISA_piojodemar
GROUP_ID : 1
FLOAT : 0 !indica q particula no flota

BOTTOM_EMISSION : 0
ADVECTION : 0

!Eleccion del modelado
MOVEMENT : NotRandom
COMPUTE_AGE : 1
DENSITY_METHOD : 3 !constante
KILL_LAND_PARTICLES : 1 !Kills particles which are located in a Waterpoint which is not a OpenPoint
MANTAIN_REALTIVE_POSITION : 0 !Check is the user wants to maintain the vertical relative position of the origin
OLD : 0
!SEDIMENTATION : Imposed !o stokes
!VOLUME_INCREASE : Double
!TVOL200 : 86400 !Time needed for a particle to double volume (segundos)

<<BeginProperty>>
NAME : particulate contaminant FIRST BOXPARTICLE

UNITS : number/100ml
CONCENTRATION : 5
AMBIENT_CONC : 5
OUTPUT_CONC : 2
<<EndProperty>>

!**********************************************************
<<BeginProperty>>
NAME : fish 2NDBOXPARTICLE
UNITS : cantidad por jaula
CONCENTRATION : 5
AMBIENT_CONC : 5
OUTPUT_CONC : 2
<<EndProperty>>

<EndOrigin>

!

<<BeginProperty>>
NAME : fecal coliforms
UNITS : cantidad por jaula
CONCENTRATION : 5
AMBIENT_CONC : 5
OUTPUT_CONC : 2
<<EndProperty>>

<EndOrigin>

This way, there will be three origin boxes with one type of particle in each box (with three different colours)?

Another question: I am doing for the moment test with one of the three particles, in order to remove all the error prior to launch my complete model.
I am running my model with only the first property, and I get always a hdf file which I can open, and all works good, and when I try to open my lagrangian file, nothing happens, the particles are not on the screen...
Can you help me?

Thanks a lot for your answers,

Have a nice day!

Camille.

Hi Camille,

You have to increase the particle size in the post.processor. By default the size is set to zero.

Hope this helps,
Luis
