Levitus_Error

Postby QAYETBEY@GMAIL.COM » Tue Feb 26, 2013 21:27

Hello MOHIDers
I have got this message:
Reading constructions...
Type of Interpolation : Bilinear
Constructing father grid...
Constructing new grid...
Constructing aux grid...
Constructing communication between grids...
Number of instants in available data : 12
reading salinity fields
Interpolating : salinity_00001 2
Interpolating : salinity_00001 2
Interpolating : salinity_00001 2
Interpolating : salinity_00001 2
Interpolating : salinity_00001 2
.
.
.
Interpolating : salinity_00001 2

All Triangulation Nodes are collinear
VerifyCollinearPoints-ModuleTriangulation-ERR01

Any idea about that ?! :(

Hello,

Please specify what tool are you using and what are you trying to do.
If you send the input data file also may help.

Best regards,
David

Hi David
Thank you for your response.
I wanna feed MOHID with temperature and salinity values from Levitus as HDF5 file using ( ConverToHDF5_release_double ) Tool.
The program reads the Levitus files well , but gives the above error message on beginning interpolation. I use high resolution (1/4 degree) Temperature and Salinity Analyses of the World's Oceans.,Version 2 ( Gridded Fields) and the ConvertToHDFAction file looks like this :

<begin_file>
ACTION : CONVERT LEVITUS FORMAT

OUTPUTFILENAME : Levitus.hdf5
OUTPUT_GRID_FILENAME : LevitusGrid.dat
OUTPUT_GEOMETRY_FILENAME : LevitusGeometry.dat

PERIODICITY : monthly

Hello,

So as a start this is not a Levitus Error, but interpolation. That can be related to the file or not.
the first thing to do is separate the processes so that you know in which it failed (it was the first interpolation that failed?)

If you look to the code error it means that was an error on routine VerifyCollinearPoints inside ModuleInterpolation. And the error number inside that routine is 1. You can search this way every error code you got.

And it seems that you have collinear points. So we have to see that after it is separated the process that gives the problem.

Best regards,
David

Hello David
Thank You for Your Reply.
I already separated processes and it stopped upon interpolating (second process). ok, I am going to check it as you suggest but ConvertToHDF5_release_double is not present in the repository !
Do not you have a facility for debugging ?

Hello,

the ConvertToHDF5 code is is in Codeplex in software.

So in your first interpolation the model found collinear points to interpolate.
Have you made other interpolations successfull?
If yes try those settings first.

Also you may try other interpolation method (not triangulation) to see if you get it done (and the problem may be in triangulation) or if no methos works and maybe the problem is the files you are trying to interpolate.

Best regards,
David

Hello,

This error appeared in the same run or after you changed the interpolation method?

But just some remarks about your interpolation:
- you are performing interpolations from one grid FATHER_GRID_FILENAME to the NEW_GRID_FILENAME. And you are using the same file LevitusGrid.dat. Interpolation in this case (in ConvertToHDF5) is a process to get HDF5 values in one grid and interpolate them to other grid (coarser or finer). From one grid to the same you do not need to do nothing. Probably that is why it gave collinear points error.
- You define year of start and end with -9999 I do not know what the model does with that. The number -99 or -9999 only means something if it is a grid value. In grids -99 will not be considered but in dates I do not think the model will use as it. it will use year -9999.

So if you can go back to the time where the error was collinear points that proabbly is because you are not interpolating between grids.
If you want interpolation to do something you have to provide two grids, the original and the new.

Probably you do not need Interpolation (you do not have a new grid) and you are done!

Best regards,

David

Dear David
Sorry, I forget to tell you that this error appeared while nesting a model.

ok but you are giving the program the father and son the same grid.
and they need to be different or interpolation does not make sense.

Best regards,
David
